Below are some commonly used words that relate to the life sciences
industry. We’ve also provided some links.
Sometimes people use the terms “life sciences” and “biotechnology” interchangeably.
There is some debate about whether they mean the same thing. Many
people who work in the life sciences industry say they are not
the same thing.
Here is one of our favorite, simple definitions of life sciences: “Any of several branches of science, such as biology,
medicine, anthropology, or ecology, that deal with living organisms
and their organization, life processes, and relationships to
each other and their environment. Also called bioscience."
Washington State Life Sciences Business Directory
The Washington Biotechnology & Biomedical Assocation is a non
profit association that provides resources for Washington State
life science companies and those organizations who serve the life
sciences community. The following link provides a list and web
links for hundreds of companies that are members of the WBBA.
Since 1980 $25 billion
has gone into WA-based research universities and non-profit
organizations - mostly federal research and training money
focused on health science.
